The best Shopify gift box apps in 2026 are NeatBundles, Boxi and Kitenzo. All three let shoppers build a gift box over several steps. Pick NeatBundles for the most personalization and a free start, Boxi for a polished gift box builder with per-product custom fields, and Kitenzo for headless stores and complex rules.
A quick disclosure first: we built NeatBundles, and it's one of the three. I recorded the video above comparing it with the two gift box apps merchants ask me about most, and I've tried to give each the same treatment, including the gaps in our own. There's no ranking. Each app fits a different kind of store.
Every rating, price and feature below was checked on the live Shopify App Store listings and on each app's own help docs and pricing pages on November 2, 2026. The video was recorded at the end of August, and some of it has already changed: Kitenzo's rating moved from 4.3 to 4.4 and its pricing switched to a percentage of bundle sales. Where an app's docs don't mention a feature, the table says "Not documented", which doesn't mean the app can't do it.
Key takeaways
- "Gift box app" covers three kinds of app: gift box builders, free gift with purchase apps and gift wrap apps. This comparison is about builders, where the shopper picks the box and what goes in it.
- NeatBundles is the only one of the three that's free on a live store, up to $500 of bundle sales a month, with every feature on every plan.
- Boxi is the closest gift box specialist, but photo uploads, translations and market pricing start on its $79/month Advanced plan.
- Kitenzo charges 1.5% of each bundle sale and is the pick for headless storefronts, with a React SDK and A/B testing.
Which kind of gift box app do you need?
A Shopify gift box app is one of three different things, and most "best gift box apps" lists mix them up. Decide which one you need before comparing anything:
- A gift box builder. The shopper picks a box, fills it with products from your range and adds a gift note, then buys it all as one bundle. This is what NeatBundles, Boxi and Kitenzo do, and what this post compares.
- A free gift with purchase app. "Spend $75, get a free candle." The gift is added to an order the shopper builds the usual way. If that's what you need, look for a free gift app; a box builder is more than you need.
- A gift wrap and message app. A checkbox for wrapping and a message field on any order. Fine when you sell single products as gifts; it doesn't let the shopper assemble a box.
Shopify itself has no gift box builder. Its free Shopify Bundles app creates fixed bundles and multipacks, where every shopper gets the same set, so a box the shopper fills needs a third-party app.
The three gift box builders at a glance
The table compares the three Shopify gift box apps on what they're best at, their free option, their entry price and their rating, as listed on the Shopify App Store on November 2, 2026.
| App | Best for | Free option | Paid from | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NeatBundles | Personalized gift boxes, free start | Up to $500 of bundle sales a month | See pricing | 4.9 (6) |
| Boxi | Polished gift box builder, per-product personalization | 14-day free trial | $21/mo, up to $1,000 of bundle sales | 5.0 (26) |
| Kitenzo | Headless stores, complex rules | Free to install, development stores free until launch | 1.5% of each bundle sale | 4.4 (264) |
All three price by bundle sales in some way, so a store that sells few gift boxes pays little. The difference is where the free part ends and which features sit behind higher plans, which the sections below go through.
How each app handles the parts of a gift box
A gift box has five parts that matter to a shopper and to whoever packs the order: the box, what goes inside, the gift note, the price and the order that lands in your admin. Here is how each app handles them, with screenshots of a NeatBundles gift box on our demo store.
The box
The box step lets the shopper choose the packaging before anything else, so the gift feels like a gift from the first click. In NeatBundles the box is a normal product step with your box products; set the minimum and maximum to 1 and the shopper picks exactly one. You can also preselect a box or make it required so it's always in the bundle.

Boxi and Kitenzo both build multi-step boxes too. Boxi's listing shows step-by-step builders with purchase rules and pre-selected products (from its $35 Regular plan), and Kitenzo's gifts page shows a box size step and a "Required products" block that adds items to every bundle.
What goes inside
The contents step is where the shopper fills the box, and the limits you set decide how big a gift can get. In the demo below the step allows three products, so once three are in the box the rest of the grid greys out, and the panel shows the 15% discount on the running total:

All three apps cap how many items go in a box and keep inventory per product. NeatBundles can fill a step from a whole collection, so new products show up without editing the box. Boxi adds Shopify Search & Discovery filters inside the builder, which helps when a step has dozens of products.
The gift note
The gift note is where the three apps differ most, and it's what turns a bundle into a present. NeatBundles adds a personalization step with any mix of text, long text, number, photo upload, multiple choice, date and date and time fields, each optional or required, on every plan. You can keep it as one last step or spread personalization over several steps.
Here's the last step of a cookie gift box on our demo store, with From, To and a message filled in, and two free gift cookies the box unlocked:

Boxi handles the note with a custom data step for the box, and adds something NeatBundles doesn't have: custom fields on individual products, such as a photo for a printed mug. Those product personalizations start on the Advanced plan. Kitenzo's docs describe a Notes block, a free-text field, and its gifts page shows gift message, delivery date and wrapping blocks.
The price
A gift box is usually priced one of two ways: the sum of what's inside minus a discount, or one fixed price for the box. NeatBundles does both, plus pricing rules that check the number of items, the box value or the number of boxes in the cart, and then take a percentage or amount off, set a box price or set a price per product. Free gifts can be one fixed product, a gift the shopper picks, or free shipping.
Boxi offers percentage, tiered and fixed price discounts, and its docs note that a fixed price only applies when the items in the box add up to more than that price. Kitenzo lists fixed, percentage and volume pricing plus a conditions engine with free gift rules.
The order
The order is where a gift box either saves you time or creates email back-and-forth. In NeatBundles the box reaches checkout as one line with the gift note and the discount on it, and every product listed underneath as its own SKU:

Boxi works the same way with a parent bundle product and the box items listed under it, and shows the note in the order's Additional details. Kitenzo uses Shopify's Cart Transform and native checkout, and has docs for showing bundle contents on packing slips.
Gift box features side by side
The table covers the features that decide how good a gift box can be, checked in each app's listing, pricing page and help docs on November 2, 2026. Plan names are given where a feature isn't on the entry plan.

Where NeatBundles is ahead, and where it isn't
NeatBundles is ahead of one or both of the other apps in five specific places:
- The free start. It's free to use up to $500 of bundle sales a month on a live store, with no trial clock. Boxi has a 14-day trial and then starts at $21/month, and Kitenzo takes 1.5% from the first sale.
- No plan gates. Photo uploads, translations and per-currency prices are on every plan. On Boxi those start at $79/month, and pre-selected products at $35. The rest of our tiers are on the pricing page.
- The widest set of gift note fields. Seven field types, including multiple choice and date and time, which Boxi and Kitenzo don't document. That covers a delivery date, a card design choice and a photo in one step. The personalized bundles page shows each field.
- Free gifts with a choice. A box can unlock a fixed free gift, a gift the shopper picks, or free shipping. Boxi doesn't document free gifts at all.
- Pricing rules. Rules can set a price per product, not just a percentage or amount off, and stack into tiers by item count, box value or boxes in the cart.
And where it isn't:
- It's young. The listing went live in January 2025 and has 6 reviews. Boxi has 26 and Kitenzo 264.
- No per-product personalization. Fields belong to the box, so "a name on this mug, a photo on that frame" in one box is easier in Boxi.
- No headless SDK, A/B testing or POS yet. Headless support is the part we're developing right now. Until it ships, Kitenzo is the one built for headless storefronts.
If you want to see a full setup, I walk through it in how to set up a Shopify gift box builder, and the gift box builder feature page has a demo store link.
Boxi: a gift box specialist with plan-gated extras
Boxi is a gift box and build your own box app launched in May 2024, with the Built for Shopify badge and a 5.0 rating from 26 reviews. In the video I called it a great option for gift boxes, and that holds: it's built around exactly this use case.

The feature that stands out is personalization on single products. Here a shopper uploads a photo for a printed frame inside the box:

What it does well
- Clean multi-step builders with a visual editor, filters inside the builder and pre-selected products.
- Custom fields on single products, including image uploads, for boxes where each item is personalized.
- Tiered and fixed price discounts and 1:1 video onboarding on every plan, plus real-time stock checks from Regular, per the listing.
Where it falls short
- No free plan. After the 14-day trial, Basic is $21/month for up to $1,000 of bundle sales, Regular $35 for $5,000, Advanced $79 for $15,000 and Enterprise $189 for unlimited.
- Several gift features sit on Advanced: product personalizations with photo uploads, multi-language and regional pricing by market.
- Free gifts and analytics aren't documented in its listing or help center.
Kitenzo: for headless stores and rule-heavy catalogs
Kitenzo Bundle Builder has been on the App Store since 2017, has the Built for Shopify badge and won a 2024 Shopify Build Award. It builds full bundle pages and gift boxes, and it's the most developer-oriented of the three, with a React SDK and a headless API. In the video I pointed out the SDK as its most unusual feature, and it still is.

It also reports bundle revenue and runs A/B tests between bundle versions, which neither of the other two documents:

What it does well
- A conditions engine for product visibility, volume pricing and free gifts, plus required products.
- Works on a Shopify theme, a Hydrogen storefront or a custom React front end.
- All features on one plan, including A/B testing and reporting, per its pricing page.
Where it falls short
- 1.5% of every bundle sale, from the first one. At $4,000 of gift box sales a month that's $60. Usage is capped at $10,000 per 30 days.
- Personalization in the docs is a notes field. Photo uploads aren't documented.
- The lowest rating of the three, 4.4 from 264 reviews, with 11% of ratings at one star. Read the recent reviews before you decide.
What you pay as gift box sales grow
Gift box sales are seasonal, so price each app at a normal month and at December. All three charge by bundle sales, in different ways, as listed on November 2, 2026:
- NeatBundles: free, then tiers by bundle sales. Free up to $500 of bundle sales a month with every feature, and the tier follows what you actually sell that month. The tiers above that are on the pricing page.
- Boxi: monthly plans by bundle sales. $21 up to $1,000, $35 up to $5,000, $79 up to $15,000, $189 unlimited. A $4,000 month fits Regular at $35, but photo uploads and translations need Advanced at $79.
- Kitenzo: 1.5% of each bundle sale. $12 on an $800 month, $60 on $4,000, $180 on $12,000. Nothing to pay before you sell, and the cost grows in a straight line.
Tip: Check which plan has the features you need, not just which plan fits your sales. A gift box with a photo upload sits on a different Boxi plan than one with only a message.
Which gift box app fits your store?
The right gift box app depends on what your boxes need and how your store is built. Here's how I'd decide:
- You want personalized gift boxes with a note, a date or a photo, and a free start: NeatBundles. If you sell to companies, selling corporate gift boxes on Shopify shows the same builder used for bulk orders.
- Each item in the box gets its own personalization, like engraved or printed products: Boxi, on the Advanced plan.
- You run a headless storefront or want A/B tests and complex conditions: Kitenzo.
- You want gift boxes plus product-page bundles, quantity breaks or BOGO: none of these three is the best fit; see the mix and match bundle apps comparison for all-in-one apps.
Tip: A gift box builder shines when shoppers choose what goes inside. If your boxes are curated on purpose, like a sommelier's three wines, sell the finished box as a normal product.
Frequently asked questions
Does Shopify have a built-in gift box builder?
No. Shopify's free Bundles app creates fixed bundles and multipacks, where every shopper buys the same set. To let shoppers pick a box, fill it and add a gift note, you need a gift box app such as NeatBundles, Boxi or Kitenzo.
Can customers add a gift message to a gift box on Shopify?
Yes, with a gift box app. NeatBundles adds a personalization step with From, To and Message fields by default, Boxi uses a custom data step and Kitenzo has a notes field. In NeatBundles and Boxi the message is attached to the order, so whoever packs the box sees it.
Which Shopify gift box app is free?
NeatBundles is free to use up to $500 of bundle sales a month, with every feature included, which suits stores starting with gift boxes. Boxi has a 14-day free trial and then starts at $21 a month. Kitenzo is free to install but takes 1.5% of each bundle sale.
Can shoppers upload a photo for a personalized gift box?
In NeatBundles, yes, on every plan: add an image field to the personalization step and the upload comes through on the order as a link. Boxi supports image uploads on single products from its $79 Advanced plan. Kitenzo's docs don't mention photo uploads.
Is this comparison biased toward NeatBundles?
We built NeatBundles, so read it with that in mind. To keep it fair there's no ranking, every number comes from a listing or help page with the date it was checked, and each app gets its weak spots, ours included. For per-product personalization or a headless store, another app here is the better choice.
Before you pick one
These three apps look alike in a feature list. Before you choose one:
- Write down what your gift note needs: a message only, a delivery date, a photo, or something per product.
- Check which plan has those features, then price it at your normal and December gift box sales.
- Open each app's demo store and build a gift box on your phone, all the way to checkout.
- Recheck the listing price on the day you install. Kitenzo's pricing changed between my video and this post.
If a personalized gift box is what you're after, you can install NeatBundles from the Shopify App Store and build your first one for free.
